Alongside hot meals, showers, medic support, advice and signposting, we offer our guests the opportunity to get ID and a bank account.
Niall Love, a long-time volunteer at Coffee4Craig has taken charge of this initiative, so far providing almost 100 bank accounts for our guests, ending bank account poverty whilst working in partnership with HSBC.
ID and a bank account is something that we so often take for granted. For those experiencing street homelessness, this is often one of the biggest barriers they face.
For our guests, not having a bank account strips them of self-identity, esteem and self-worth. It can lead to financial exploitation which reinforces the recurring trauma they experience through street homelessness. Niall giving this opportunity helps people regain their dignity, and self-respect and helps them with their first steps in recovering from street homelessness.
